Farm Trust CSA
Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA, is a community of individuals that pledge or commit support to a farm so that, in essence, the farm is sponsored by the members. In this way the consumer becomes a co-producer of the farm, providing support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production. Members pledge in advance to support, in part, anticipated costs of the farm’s operation and labor. In return, co-producers receive shares of the farmer’s bounty throughout the growing season and gain the satisfaction of connecting to the land, knowing where their food comes from, and eating locally produced, nutrient-dense food.
Broad River Pasture’s CSA works like a gift card. The co-producer pledges an amount to the farmer - from $125 to $500, in order to assist the farm in future production. Two-three times a month, we contact CSA members to let them know what is currently available on the farm. This may include meat, eggs, produce, herbs, fiber products, farm-themed note cards, or dog treats. CSA members can make a purchase or not. As they make choices, their dividend balance is drawn down based on the value of the items selected. They have 12 months to draw their balance down to zero. If they spend their pledge before the end of the year, they can add to it in $50 increments as they wish. This is in contrast to a more typical CSA that divides weekly or monthly harvests among the members to deliver a box of produce or meat. In that model, each person receives a similar package with some options to swap items. There is also less risk than in a model that provides a harvest each week and will sometimes have harvests of lower value. Our customers like the flexibility of shopping for what they want when they want it. They also appreciate getting first choice at the items in highest demand before they are listed at our other markets. We make CSA deliveries to Athens and Washington, Georgia, and also have pick ups on the farm.
We are now accepting a few new CSA members. We will have seasonal items available year round. Please complete the FARM TRUST CSA INQUIRY FORM below for more information. Thank you for your support!
